Title:
  Passwordless users are prompted for their password when the screen
  locks

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

  Ubuntu 10.10 fresh install

  I created a new user and then executed the command

  sudo passwd -d {username}

  which deletes the user's password. In the Users and Groups utility,
  beside "Password" it correctly says "None", however the user is still
  able to lock their session (e.g. with the screen saver or user
  switching) and therefore you cannot unlock it since the user has no
  password.

  I propose that the session locker should check whether or not the user
  has a password, and if not, unlock the session automatically. I
  believe that this is also what was causing Bug #439068, so possibly
  the fix there could work as well by preventing the session from
  locking all together if a user has no password.
