Title:
Attaches wrong files for uploads
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: nautilus
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Released April 2010. I was told this is a bug, by serveral people.
When I try to upload a file, I click on the file name, and expect it to attach the file whose name I clicked on. Instead it tries to attach other things.
My usual procedure for attaching a file, which might be weird, but
I've done this in several versions of Ubuntu, is in a terminal, $ ls
thefilename, and then type a random letter in the File Selection
Dialogue, so that it opens a window, then paste the filename, click
the home key, and delete the random letter. Then I click on the name
of the file, and it attaches.
The problem is that since my upgrade/new hard drive to Ubuntu 10.04
Lucid, about 45 days ago, after I delete the random letter, the line
highlighted is not the correct filename, but usually one above it, in
the same directory. Then if I click the correct name, it's attaching
something totally different, most frequently 'xchat.conf' - but not
always. Sometimes it attaches another file or, at times, even the
correct file.
I can't figure out which variable yields which result. Everything I have tried seems random.
It does this with .txt and .doc and other formats, not picking the same file OR format to attach.
I wish I could attach a screenshot of Yahoo Mail on Opera, where it
attached: 1 file which I intended to send, and four copies of
'xchat.conf', instead of the four .txt files I needed to send.
When I tried to file this bug report, in Opera, it attached
xchat.conf. I had to cancel the bug report to remove it.
I'll add this, it may be related, or a separate bug: When I want to
'save as' a picture mailed to me: 'test.jpg', opened in Image Viewer,
frequently it won't open the dialogue. I'll click File > Save As - and
nothing happens at all, no dialouge opens.
