Title:
Dbus error connecting to shared folders in nautilus
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: nautilus
On an exclusively Ubuntu 10.x LAN, users right click on folders on
their machine and share them in nautilus. Other users then attempt a
connection and these shares sometimes connect, and sometimes give a
DBus error. We mostly use bookmarks to these shared folders, where the
bookmark is of the order "smb://server/share/" . See attached
screenshot for error.
I tried setting up a WINS server to see if that would help, but it
doesn't. It just seems to make things worse. Now I drill down from the
WORKGROUP level, although I can by pass the WORKGROUP and drill down
from the server level.
I tried using SSH and bookmarking all the folders that we need to see
if that gets passed this DBus error. It doesn't. However, I did find
something. If one bookmarks the server "ssh://server/" and also the
shared folder as two separate bookmarks, one can link to the server,
and then to the share, and the DBus error doesn't happen. If one goes
directly to the bookmarked shared folder, it seems that one is prone
to getting the Dbus error.
See bug 712787 for the same issue there.
Also I sympathize with Bugs 363576 and 456808.
Command line access seems to be fine, but Nautilus seems buggy on the
LAN. So, regular users find LAN use annoying. Help!
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, as most of us on the LAN are. Our "server" is
a 10.4 machine.
Thanks!
