Title:
File MGR is very slow on any type fs
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: nautilus
I think that among recent recommended updates were a new kernel and
file manager (see trouble report from nautilus. I have noticed with an
NTFS filesystem on a USB bus that file operations seem to take longer
and longer and I get a spinner more often than I think I expect. Shell
access via terminal seems not to be affected, only file mgr. The
symptom also appears on the root FS on the boot drive in the main
system after I've been using the external drive. I do have thumbnails
turned on, but I think that even though that causes overhead, most of
the delay seems to be with file moves and rereading the driectory
afterwrds.
I know that the external drive on the USB bus has questionable
performance. It is a Western Digital My Book 1.5 TB drive and it does
not have the best reputation for response or throughput, but it worked
much faster in U 9.04 and U10.10 before the latest upgrades. I had
thought that naybe there was added checking for NTFS going on, and I
could accept a little delay if that were the case, but the trouble
report seems indicate some critical failure of performance.
The trouble report out of Nautilus seems to have most of the
information for a bug cited on this page.
