Bug description:
  i upgraded 11.04 desktop to 11.10, then i had updated the video card driver.
  since doing that i couldn't restart the machine (blank screen at boot)
  i downloaded 11.10 to try and recover my install and keep my files, so i installed it on a USB drive with the USB initialiser from pendrive (your link at the bottom of the page)
  then i tried to run from USB and at the desktop this error was generated.
