Title:
Ethernet doesn't work after disconnecting and then reconnecting after
  being connected to wifi

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

I'm on a Lenovo ThinkPad L512 running Ubuntu 10.10 and first found
this bug in Ubuntu 10.04 and this bug was happening each morning to
  me.

  Steps to reproduce were:
  1. Connect to Ethernet/network here at work (a closed network)
  2. Unplug and go home
  3. Connect to wifi
  4. Close lid and walk to work (wifi disconnected)
  5. Plug in ethernet.

At step 5 Ubuntu wouldn't even notice that I had plugged it in. I followed all the steps in Maco's help here:
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/6129/why-does-my-ethernet-port-sometimes-not-work

Each time however, all the steps she asked me to do just gave me:
  "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot allocate memory"

I checked the memory via free -m and I had sometimes up to 1.1-2GBs of
free memory. I searched the web and i did these steps and i got my
  Ethernet back up:

  lspci| grep -i ethernet
  dmesg | grep -i ethernet
  sudo service network-manager stop
  sudo ifconfig eth0 up
  sudo dhclient eth0
  sudo service network-manager start

I'm not sure if i have to do all of those or not, but those seemed to
make it work finally after over a week of each day trying out
  different things.
