  Mouse pad (touch pad) not working after upgrade

Bug description:
  My mouse pad is not working after upgrading to the latest ubuntu
  11.10. During the install, the installation complained that there are
  some problems and the machine might be in unusable state. After
  restart I saw that my mousepad (touchpad) is not working. Please
  advice
