Title:
nm-applet not functioning due to dbus configuration
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
the nm-applet menu would show no network devices as found, and only
allow me to view connection info.
The .xsession-errors log was full off messages like:
** (nm-applet:1588): WARNING **: _nm_object_get_property: Error getting 'WirelessHardwareEnabled' for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: (9) Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.49" (uid=1000 pid=1588 comm="nm-applet ") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="Get" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager" (uid=0 pid=844 comm="NetworkManager ")
So i changed the config in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf and changed the line
<deny send_destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager"/>
in the default context to allow. This is probably not the best way to
fix it, but nm-applet worked after restarting it. Could this be
because the deny rule overrides all the other rules using the same
send_destination?
