  Thunderbird can't modify any gconf settings

Bug description:
  Configuration server couldn't be contacted: D-BUS error: Method "Set"
  with signature "s(is)" on interface "org.gnome.GConf.Database" doesn't
  exist

  
  Configuration server couldn't be contacted: D-BUS error: Method "AddNotify" with signature "s" on interface "org.gnome.GConf.Database" doesn't exist

  Configuration server couldn't be contacted: D-BUS error: Method
  "LookupExtended" with signature "ssb" on interface
  "org.gnome.GConf.Database" doesn't exist

  I upgraded to 11.10 and wanted to give Thunderbird a try. My
  experience so far hasn't been great because the app is giving errors
  all over the place whenever it tries to change them.
