[Bug 849733] Re: No icon in notification area while transfering files
Also the same for me. Using Gnome-Shell there's no way to get back the
file operations dialog box. You can only start minimizing every window
to be able to see it.

Bug description:
According to this bug report (
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657561 ), Nautilus should
bring up an icon in the notification area while doing file operations.
In Oneiric, you only get a modal dialog, but nothing in the
notification area.
