[Bug 839836] Re: resolv.conf empty when running in debug
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 862134 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862134
I've got the same problem. I tried some recommended work-around like adding
this line to /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf
prepend domain-name-servers <dns-server-ip-addr-1> <addr-2>
However,
sudo service network-manager restart
just wipes out the contents of /etc/resolv.conf. No go.
Is apt-get remove --purge network-manager the recommended work-around?
I'd hate to think there are Ubuntu 11.10 dependencies on this GUI-oriented
application - but since it ignores existing system configuration files - and since
it overwrites any direct edits of those files ... things are getting scary.
Would switching to Ubuntu server be best for user-controlled desktops?
I'm reticent to put Network-Manager in charge. Network-manager SUCKS!
