Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the stable

Title:
  Retrieving contact info for contact notification popup stalls UI for 3
  seconds and results in high CPU usage

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: empathy

  Bug seems to be present in Pidgin, too, but not as prominent (often)
  as in Empathy, so maybe it is in libpurple?

  It does not matter whether full or minimal contact info is selected
  for contact list. Moving the mouse over the contact list results in
  high CPU usage (50% CPU on my EeePC Atom N450) and stalls Empathy UI
  (list and menu) for 3-4 seconds. After that, notification bubble comes
  up, but hovering over some other contact afterwards produces same
  stall again most of the time.

  Happens alsmot everytime mouse pointer is moved into Empathy window.

  Regression from Maverick. Never experienced that in Maverick.

  Not critical, but very annoying and significantly slowing down my
  Desktop work flow. Please fix.
