I hope this will help, firstly you should know that I have upgraded to
11.10 and the problems with evolution have not totally gone because I
get error messages but these messages do not appear to have any impact
on the efficiency of the application. 

When I upgraded the messages in the waste bin disappeared. Furthermore
new deletions disappear as well. I get an error message when I forward a
reply ....
 The reported error was "Failed to append to
mbox:///home/gordon/.local/share/evolution/mail/local#Sent: Invalid
folder URI 'mbox:///home/gordon/.local/share/evolution/mail/local#Sent'
Appending to local 'Sent' folder instead."

It seems to work satisfactorily as I can see the reply in sent messages.

I think the new release is brilliant and you can quote me. Maybe because
I struggled with some aspects in the last release, this conversion was 
very easy.

A very big thank you to all of the team! If I can be of more help don't
hesitate to ask.

  evollution delete messages

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution

  Before upgrade, the symbol in evolution in deleted messages was
  blanked out or not active, this is no longer the case but it does not
  work. All of the work around cntl e for example give an error as does
  empty wastebasket in file .  I have not tried it but I am sure if I
  delete certain files  (old solution from the forums, evolution will
  reset, but for how long)
