I changed ownership of ~/.Xauthority from root to me and now I can log
on.

Thus this bug is a dupe of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/871667 and can be
closed.

  When I try to log on, the screen gets black for a second and returns
  to the login screen.

  Other users work, only mine is affected.

  I try to attach ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/lightdm/
