[Bug 774131] Re: 2D GNOME session fails to use wm wrapper script
Actually, the situation seems even worse in Oneiric.
1) Neither /usr/bin/gnome-wm nor the /desktop/gnome/session keys exist, so I can't figure out the intended way to set the window manager for gnome
2) Not only the "Ubuntu" sessions use metacity, but the special "Sawfish" session installed by sawfish _also_ starts metacity...

Title:
2D GNOME session fails to use wm wrapper script
Status in “gnome-session” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-session-common
The file /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/2d-gnome.session contains
the line
Required-windowmanager=metacity
This should say
Required-windowmanager=gnome-wm
just like in classic-gnome.session, otherwise the users wm preference
will not be respected.
