I'm not sure if this bug has been fixed or not.. but it doesn't affect
me anymore, I'm not sure when it disappeared, maybe when 10.10 or 11.04
was released..

  In Power Management Preferences

  "Put display to sleep when inactive for: Never" does dot work. 
  Display is put to sleep and goes dark after a few minutes.

  "Put display to sleep when inactive for: 1 hour" does work.
  Display is put to sleep and goes dark after 1 hour.
