[Bug 880310] Re: gEdit: Current way of Changing text encoding is annoying for long-time users

Sorry, I don't see any screenshot attached. May be you forgot to attach it?
In gEdit 3.2.0 statusbar shows only syntax highlight mode, insert/replace mode, line/column count, tab width (at screenshot). There is no way to change encoding in it =( I understand that this is a feature request, not a bug report. But ability to view any text file is a key feature of any text editor in my opinion. And this feature isn't too hard to implement (that's why I'm writing to papercuts).

Bug description:
I am a long-time user of gEdit and I still don't understand: why can't
I change text encoding from editor's menu as I can do in any browser
for example. If "it's not a bug, it's a feature request" please
explain WHY?!
