[Bug 880359] Re: Fresh install ubuntu ocelot (11.10) hangs on booting on dell XPS m1530
Hi both,
Thanks for responding so quick, helpfull and clear.
First: the problem seems 'fixed'. I (re)installed three times. The third time after Fabio's post. Only thereafter booting went fine.
To help in the event that the problem reapears in someone elses or my computer, I will still give the feedbak you asked for.
Fabio, the checksum was oke.
The /var/log/installer files are attached.
Dave, the /var/log/lightdm files are attached.
What happened:
The live session started fine (first it didn't.) Thereafter I installed the system. I did reboot (after saving the files Fabio asked for.) And all worked fine.
The difference with the second time I installed the system was:
- In the bios I disabled all wireless functions in the laptop
- I didn't let the installer install upgrades
- I installed when I was in a live session
After the system was installed and I had rebooted, I turned on the
wireless functions in the laptop bios. And I installed all available
upgrades.
I don't know if the above made the difference. But these are the only
differences I am aware of between the install which does work and the
one which didn't.
Thanxs for hinting me in a direction which turned out to be a suprise
solution!

Title:
Fresh install ubuntu ocelot (11.10) hangs on booting on dell XPS m1530
Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I installed ubuntu oneiric ocelot from scratch (the option in the
installer to replace the current ubuntu version.) Installing went fine
(no problems reported.) But the system never totally booted after
installing it. After some seconds, the (empty) purple screen appairs,
and thereafter a text screen with some lines (I will attach a screen
shot), and then nothing happens. I can only reboot from there using
ctrl-alt-delete.
By using the the safe mode to boot, I was able to reach the command
line. I used apt-get to do the available upgrades. That made no
difference to the above.
Does anyone else experience this?
Does anyone know the solution?
