[Bug 562748] Re: Suspend rather than Hibernate is the Default
Depressing the power button (only tried while logged in) or selecting
shutdown from the menu will produce a dialog which will default to
shutdown after a minute. Although this power down option works
correctly, 5 to 7 seven seconds seems like a long time while awaiting a
forced shutdown and a minute seems like forever. Can the default time
until shutdown be reduced?
Hibernation appears to happen following a hibernation menu request (did not try an automatic one).
Recovery from hibernation fails miserably with a splotched black and white pattern.
Recovery from this disaster requires not one but two powerdowns and restarts. The first restart produces a yucky theme.
Is it possible that an Nvidia driver is required to be able to
sucessfully hibernate/restore since I am using a pCie Nvidia graphics
card?

Title:
Suspend rather than Hibernate is the Default
Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Shutdown, NOT suspend should be the Default action when the power button
is pushed. There are many cases when a hung system can only be
addressed by removing power or forcing a shutdown. Shutting a hung
system down via the power button will do less harm that simply removing
power.
Finally, hibernate and NOT suspend should be the Power Management default
because data will be lost during suspend if power is lost.
