Message #41571
[Bug 849344] Re: duplicate emails come in from gmail pop account
You may be receiving two copies of most mail because of POP accounts: if
emails are left on the server they may, under some cases (such as if you
delete the first), be downloaded again.
GMail supports IMAP. As a workaround, you may wish to change the
settings to IMAP (or better yet, IMAP+); most other parameters do not
need to be changed for GMail, just make sure the server is correctly set
to imap.gmail.com. (and you might need to explicitly enable IMAP in
Google Mail settings)

Title:
duplicate emails come in from gmail pop account
Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I followed the instructions for setting up my gmail pop account, but
it sends me 2 copies of incoming mail. The first time it downloaded
mail from Google's server, it included all the emails in my trash
(which is why I believe it sends two copies). However, when I
received the confirmation mail for my launchpad account, I only
received one copy.
I'm presently using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 11.04
