Would it be possible for you to attach an example email here (you can
save as Mbox, for instance, to allow attaching a single file containing
a large email to this bug report), so we can try to reproduce the issue?

  evolution too large mails, open with empty

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  1) Ubuntu 11.10
  2) evolution: Installed: 3.2.0-0ubuntu2

  if email is too large, evolution rightfully shows "Evolution cannot render this email as it is too large to process. You can view it unformatted or with an external text editor." However, the "Open With [v]" drop down which should allow me to open it with an external editor, stays empty. So it is not possible to open this email.

  4)
  Open with menu should list external editors to allow opening very large emails
