Title:
counter-intuitive nautilus "find as you type"

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Suppose you want to quickly find a file starting with "M" in your home folder, then:
  1. Open nautilus (3.x)
  2. Start (erroneously) typing something else, eg.,"B"
  3. Intuitively (as in nautilus 2.x) you either press (a) "Backspace" or (b) "Esc"
  But:
  (a) "Backspace" takes you to the parent dir, and
  (b) "Esc" do nothing
You have to wait ~5 secs. to start typing again!
Even worse, sometimes, the small box showing the characters you're typing doesn't appear at all. This is very confusing.
