[Bug 880310] Re: gEdit: Current way of Changing text encoding is annoying for long-time users
This has not been offered before version 3.2 which is packaged in Oneiric
You can change the character encoding by reopening the file and choosing an
encoding in the "Open file" dialog.

Bug description:
I am a long-time user of gEdit and I still don't understand: why can't
I change text encoding from editor's menu as I can do in any browser
for example. If "it's not a bug, it's a feature request" please
explain WHY?!
