[Bug 659841] Re: gnome-volume-control : master volume slider always displays "100%"

The "100%" does not represent the current volume. It marks the position
on the slider where the volume is at 100% without amplification. If you
move the slider to the right of the "100%" mark then pulseaudio
amplifies the sound. You can see the same behavior in VLC where you can
have 200% volume. Again, 100% is maximum volume, without amplification.

Title:
gnome-volume-control : master volume slider always displays "100%"

Status in “gnome-media” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-media

Just switched from Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.10, I notice that the simple GUI
to adjust volumes has disappeared, now we have to use the full blown,
tabbed sound preferences UI in order to adjust volumes, what a bloat
  :-(

Anyway, trying to get used to it, I noticed some problems :

  - the main/master slider at the top of the UI, always reads "100%", no
matter where the slider is. Left, middle, right.. it just reads "100%"
  no matter what.

  - The new panel applet sees some regression too: using the mouse
wheel on it to adjust volume, doesn't display the % any more, which I
found rather practical to adjust volume quickly and accurately in a
hurry. Without any indication, it's now a hit and miss thing, so it
forces me to click on the applet to display the slider in order to see
what I am doing exactly. That's extra overhead which was not necessary
before, where has Gnome's legendary usability gone :-(
