[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal
Hi Sworddragon,
Thanks for testing this!
Could you confirm whether this happens in other programs? I tested
mainly using gedit and gitg and I am able to leave them running even
after the terminal closes. This is using lxterminal and gnome-terminal.
git gui invokes, I think, gitk, which is written using the tcl/tk
toolkit, so maybe the problem doesn't happen anymore for gtk
applications such as gedit, but does for tk applications. This test will
help confirm that and decide what to do about this.
Thanks again!

Title:
Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal
Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 dev and if I open an application in the
terminal (for example "git gui &" and "scite &") I get the output "[1]
12619" (dependend on the job and pid) and can continue using the
terminal. The problem is if I close the terminal the application is
terminated too. I tested this with gnome-terminal 3.0.1-0ubuntu3 and
lxterminal 0.1.11-0ubuntu1.
