Title:
  Desktop isn't working on some machines

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  In Karmic (daily build 20090805) live amd64, at least when running
  from a usb startup disk, the desktop background doesn't change,
  whatever I choose at the "Appearance preferences" dialog. See attached
  screenshot.
