Title:
Since 11.10, network manager does not automatically connect to wifi
upon startup -- deletes user data

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After I installed 11.10, network manager does not automatically
  connect to known wifis.

Also, appearently it has deleted all my connection profiles.

  My upgrade procedure was/is this:
1: tar -cf /home with root in single user mode.
  2: Store home.tar on a remote server.
  3: Install a fresh 11.10 install.
  4: In single user mode: mv /home /home-old ; tar -xf home.tar
