[Bug 891299] Re: Toggling a network connection to off in gnome shell "panel icon" doesn't work

Like you see in my original query (http://osdir.com/ml/gnome-shell-
list/2011-11/msg00006.html), I have the same problem, I believe that
there should be a disconnect option for connections, the answer I got is
that I should turn off the interface. I agree that turning off and
disconnecting are different things and I think both are needed.

In this conversation I found that disconnecting doesn't work anyways,
hence this bug. Maybe a separate bug report should be created for the
disconnect option?

I also think that the ability to remove APs from the connection list for
WiFi is something that is needed too (another bug request?))

Title:
Toggling a network connection to off in gnome shell "panel icon"
  doesn't work

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The version of libnm-glib shipped with Ubuntu is too old, this causes
the Gnome Shell's network connection manager's on/off toggle to not
work. Please see the following bug reports for more information:

  http://osdir.com/ml/gnome-shell-list/2011-11/msg00006.html
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=664171
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=739035

This happens with all connections, not just the "Wired" one like in
  the bug reports.

I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed (upgraded from 11.04) using the Gnome
Shell package shipped with Ubuntu, all the laterst updates applied.

  I have 2 versions installed:

  $ apt-cache policy libnm-glib2
  libnm-glib2:
    Installed: 0.8.4~git.20110319t175609.d14809b-0ubuntu3
    Candidate: 0.8.4~git.20110319t175609.d14809b-0ubuntu3
    Version table:
   *** 0.8.4~git.20110319t175609.d14809b-0ubuntu3 0
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  $ apt-cache policy libnm-glib4
  libnm-glib4:
    Installed: 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu5
    Candidate: 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu5
    Version table:
   *** 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu5 0
