  Having just started LibreOffice Writer I then clicked on the "file" menu where I clicked on the "open" menu item.  The additional "open" window appeared.  I then proceeded to select (click on) a not yet mounted partition, intending to navigate therein to the desired file.  

  If I am not mistaken that partition had not yet been mounted when I
  clicked on the "x" menu choice of the "open" function's sindow.
  (Though I might have instead clicked on the "X" item of the
  LibreOffice Writer window instead.  )  Both windows then turned
  somewhat gray in color and the menus of both seemed no longer to
  respond to mouse clicks.  For example I tried to click on the "x" or
  "close window" icon of the LibreOffice Writer window anew, but there
  came no apparent reaction to that click.

  The error message appeared.

  I had expected that instead the call to open a file located at the
  chosen partition simply not take place and the LibreOffice Writer
  window be closed.
