[Bug 509843] Re: nm-applet doesn't show Clear WiMAX network available
Since the latest version of Network Manager states it supports WiMax,
there should be a user interface to assist users connecting to WiMax
networks.
** Changed in: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu)

Title:
nm-applet doesn't show Clear WiMAX network available
Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
1) Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 Karmic Koala
2) network-manager-gnome 0.8~a~git.20091014t134532.4033e62-0ubuntu1
3) My Expectations: I click on the nm-applet icon in the notification
area. Under WiMAX Link 5150, I would expect to see something like
"Clear" or "Clearwire". I would then click on it, NetworkManager would
connect to my Clear service, retrieve an IP address, and I'm free to
use the internet from anywhere. Both Windows XP and Moblin show Clear,
which I connect to no problemo. Unfortunately, those two particular
OSes are horrible :-/
4) Reality (for now): I click on the nm-applet icon. Under WiMAX Link
5150, I see "Auto wmx0". I click on it, though I don't know why.
Unsurprisingly, it doesn't get me connected to my Clear service.
What I've learned so far: In both Windows and Moblin, by default, WiFi
is disabled and WiMAX is enabled. Clear is automatically detected. If
I try to enable WiFi, my WiMAX connection gets dropped and things get
wonky. I'm guessing that my Intel 5150 WiMAX/WiFi card is an either/or
situation, and that because Ubuntu is bringing up the WiFi side of the
card first, the WiMAX side fails. Maybe if I could switch the boot
order, WiMAX would work and WiFi would be broken?
