you can try to unset the keyboard settings:

gsettings reset org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard layouts
gsettings reset org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard model
gsettings reset org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard options

Title:
  Certain keys on keyboard no longer working

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Starting with Ubuntu version 11.10, my down arrow key and my End key
  no longer work.  I am using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard
  4000 but this also happens when I am logged in remotely through
  Desktop Sharing and using the other computer's keyboard.  Everything
  worked fine in Ubuntu 11.04.
