Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evince

  AHA!  Now, if I  launch the Evince from Applications and then open the
  PDF it works OK.

  It is only when I click on the PDF file itself or "right-click on its context menu) and choose Document-viewer as the  program to open it with- THEN Evince claims the document is text: 
       i.e. 
  Unable to open document
  File type plain text document (text/plain) is not supported
