Much ado about nothing - cannot reproduce the issue with today's amd64
image (11-Dec-2011 08:25).

Robert, could you try again with a daily live image
(http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/) and check if you are
still having that problem?

Bug description:
  when connecting to a wireless network,  gksu asks for password root ,
  but root has no password. A workaround is to set a password for root
  then I was able to connect.
