Title:
Switching between screens turns on "Same image on all monitors" when
closing laptop lid
Status in Release Notes for Ubuntu:

Status in “gnome-desktop3” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I use my laptop as a workstation at home with an external screen. When
I switch screens - turn laptop off, external on - the laptop screen is
reactivated when I close the lid.
When I switch from laptop to external screen I open gnome-display-properties and:
- turn on the external monitor
- select the correct resolution
- turn off the laptop monitor
- apply
- close laptop lid
The last action seems to reconfigure the display settings, probably something to do with the acpi scripts. The laptop screen is "on" again and "Same image on all monitors" is checked. The resolution for the external screen falls back to a standard resolution. I then:
- turn off "Same image ..."
- turn off laptop screen
- select correct resolution for external monitor.
The resolution on the laptop is 1366x768, on the external screen 1280x768.
I configured screen resolution for the external LCD using xrandr in ~/.xprofile and this works well. Contents of my .xprofile:
#!/bin/sh
xrandr --newmode "1280x768" 79.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x768
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x768
