Title:
clock applet freezes for up to 2 seconds at a time
Status in “gnome-applets” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-applets
I've been using the gnome panel for quite some time, and have recently
noticed that occasionally, the time applet seems to "skip" a few
seconds. On closer inspection, it's not a sync issue because it
freezes in the mean time, so it's not just resyncing every so often
and finding itself a second behind, it is freezing for a second or two
and then picking up the new time. I'm glad it isn't freezing and
losing seconds because of the freeze, but it's quite annoying if I'm
trying to loosely time things such as my pulse and I'm a whole second
or even two out. Heck, it's really just a superficial bug, but could
do with being sorted out.
I'd submit a patch myself, but A) I have more important things to do
(like measure my own pulse and play inordinate amounts of GTA), B) I'm
really not that confident as a developer, C) I can't find the source
for the applet anywhere and D) I don't know how to create patches,
although I presume one uses the "diff" tool to do so...
A bit more information about my system:
Release: UNR 9.10 Karmic (updated pre-release to the beta and run regular upgrades)
System: ZaReason Netbook with Intel Atom 1.6GHz CPU, 2048MB of RAM and a 16GB SSD
I believe it also affects my desktop system, but have yet to confirm this; spec below
Release: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (updated pre-release to the beta and run regular upgrades)
System: Dell Dimension 9150 with Intel Pentium IV 3.0GHz CPU, 1.25GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD
Thanks in advance to anyone who provides a patch for this, or some
pointers for me to start writing my own patches (give a man a fish and
all that).
[EDIT] Version affected:
