Title:
Empathy refuses to go online if it thinks there's no network
connection
Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: empathy
Currently, Empathy won't allow me to go online: the status dropdown and other UI widgets are greyed out. In accounts settings, it says "No network connection".
However, I'm clearly connected to the network, since I'm able to file this bug report. Just because NetworkManager reports no connection, doesn't mean I couldn't be connected in some other way - pppd, etc. Empathy should at least try to connect, rather than refusing to do anything at all. Other programs that require an internet connection work fine for me.
