Thank you for taking time in filing the bug to make ubuntu better.
can you attach the empathy chat log file with the bug it should be there.?
you can get it from help==> debugg menu.

  Empathy is opening but chat window is not opening . If opening
  preferences also empathy is quiting.I can't revert it back.
