  opening my home folder or any applications on 'places' opens the movie
  player instead

  Binary package hint: totem

  the ubuntu OS has been working out fine for me but now everytime i
  open my home folder or any other applications under 'places' ,the
  movie player opens instead.what could be the problem.even when i
  switch off and on, the problem is still there.i use an HP pavilion-
  dv5.
