Title:
Improved PostLogin script to for gdm 2.30
Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gdm
GDM for versions > 2.30 uses new Xauthority files under
/var/run/gdm/... .
This has the following implication:
a) User connects to his ubuntu machine using ssh -XYC ubuntu-machine
b) User tries to run an X11 command on the remote machine so that X11 is redirected to his local machine
c) User gets the following error:
[username@ubuntu-remote-machine]~ $ /opt/emacs24/bin/emacsclient -c
Waiting for Emacs...X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication.
*ERROR*: Display localhost:10.0 can't be opened
The workaround in order to solve the above was to run the following on
the remote ubuntu machine:
$ XAUTHORITY=... (the value it has in any processes that is under the gdm process tree).
$ export XAUTHORITY
$ xauth remove localhost:10
$ xauth merge ~/.Xauthority
