  gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in got_public_files_cb()

Bug description:
  After a few hours of use, gnome-settings-daemon will crash and reload
  itself repeatedly until you reboot. I have not been able to narrow
  down a direct cause, however it has occurred a significant number of
  times while freeciv does turns.
