I installed from the Firefox "Help" site.
When I typed "About" Firefox advised that a new version was available. I
downloaded the .tar.gz file, unpacked it but after extraction,the
original Ver 3.... showed up. Only Peppermint upgraded to 9

  which version Firefox

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  On governmen advice I attempted to upgrade my computers to Firefox
  ver9... Peppermint OS upgraded, Ubuntu 10.10 still shows ver 3... and
  MoonOS still shows ver 1 for Moon even though the two last OS said
  that they had updated. Most confusing.
