[Bug 800277] Re: empathy opens another window if a merged contacts chooses another protocol

Using the packages from PPA (ppa:telepathy/ppa), this problem still
exists.

Empathy version: 3.3.3

This bug can easily be replicated if the user has merged two contacts (e.g. the same person on Facebook and Google Talk).
The different, merged accounts are shown in the pop-up menu for the merged contact. In this submenu just select "Chat"; once for each contact. There should now be two different windows/tabs open. The expected behaviour however, is that -- since it is essentially the same person/merged contact -- once the first window is open, selecting "Chat" for another account of the same merged contact just raises this window, instead of opening a new one.

If the person (or his/her client) on the other side decides to switch
protocols, the same thing happens. Except this time it is triggered
remotely by starting a conversation on a different account (the other
person may or may not be aware of this).

The suggested behaviour would also imply that the chat logs of the
different accounts are somehow linked. This way the most recent
conversation of the merged contact would be displayed, and not the most
recent conversation of the account.

Title:
empathy opens another window if a merged contacts chooses another
  protocol

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: empathy

If a contact chooses to switch the protocol (which many of my friends with multiprotocol clients do randomly), another chat window opens.
The behavior I expect is like in pidgin: merged contacts share a single chat window.
Also I'd like to select the currently used protocol in the chat window.
