[Bug 871412] Re: more than 80% cpu usage when watching youtube video (flash or html5) firefox and chromium

I can independently confirm there is ridiculously high CPU usage by any
recent version of firefox-{4-9,10} when displaying any videos.

I do not believe this is anything to do with video drivers because the
same problem occurs on very different CPUs such as Intel Atom N270 with
Intel graphics and Intel Core i7 with nVidia graphics, same on different
architectures: 32 and 64 bit, and same under Linux/Ubuntu and under
Windows 7 Ultimate (Windows 7U).

On Windows 7U 64bit, IE9 plays youtube videos with only 40% CPU load, whereas Firefox 9 on the same videos takes 85-90% load.
Similarly, on Linux/Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10 (AMD64), Firefox 9.0.1 with latest version of the Flash plugin takes 90% CPU usage.

Title:
more than 80% cpu usage when watching youtube video (flash or html5)
  firefox and chromium

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Whether it's plugin-container or firefox with html5 enabled, watching
  youtube is cpu consuming.

  Same thing happens whith chromium-browser.

Also when playing a simple ogg file(the one in examples folder) with
totem, cpu goes up to 60%.

I suppose it's related to intel video drivers.
