Looks like a DBus failure.
You mentioned you restarted gnome-shell. Is DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS set in
gnome-shell's environment? (See /proc/$pid/environ)

Title:
Banshee crashes after completely playing one song
Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Using Oneiric with GNOME Shell, I used the "Remove" option on its icon
in the notification bar, now (even after restarting gnome-shell) it
won't show up anymore in the notification bar, it fails to grab the
multimedia keys and and it crashes consistently after completely
playing a song (skipping to the next song doesn't crash).
