I experience that same issue.  Does recognize newly inserted disc.  If I
try to force it with Media > Open Location, it eventually reports back
that it is unable to mount the disc, but yet, after several minutes of
hourglass, the disc finally shows up in the media list of banshee,
contrary to unable to mount message.  Ubuntu 11.10, 64 bit, on a Dell,
with Banshee 2.2.1.

Bug description:
  When Banshee is running and I insert an audio cd, nothing happens. The audio cd is not displayed in the banshee side panel.
  If I kill and restart banshee (simply closing down does often not help!), the audio CD is displayed. Actually, it is even displayed twice(!) in the side panel.
