[Bug 909171] Re: firefox 9 url popup is unusable with dark grey text on black background
I think you are too hasty to dismiss this as not a bug. If it is due to
something in my profile, it still does not imply it is not a bug in
firefox. Of course, there may be other reasons why it is not a bug in
firefox, but simply being due to something in my profile is not a good
enough reason to dismiss it out of hand.
It's hardly surprising nobody else has reported this. Only a handful of
lizards and geeks know about and watch the contents of the statusbar url
popup. The Mozilla project is killing off the status bar. The statusbar
popup is less prominent than it used to be, and naturally remains
undocumented. And Firefox-9.0.1 has also only been out for a short time
in Oneiric.
I can confirm this does not exist in safe mode or with a default new profile. So, which part of my profile is causing it? My profile has no userChrome.css, but various add-ons.

Title:
firefox 9 statusbar url popup is unusable with dark grey text on black
background
Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Binary package hint: firefox
Start Oneiric with the default Unity theme.
Start firefox 9.0.1 with the default persona, and theme. If you have
any custom settings for your Ubuntu desktop, don't bother trying to
reproduce this bug. Just start with a fresh Ubuntu Oneiric install.
Open any webpage that contains links.
Hit the Tab key slowly multiple times to make a small url popup appear
near the south-east corner of the browser window, showing the contents
of the currently highlighted url.
The text in the url popup is dark grey on a black background. Who on earth chose that scheme? It's completely illegible without using a microscope and an image contrast enhancement tool.
This does not meet even minimum usability and accessibility requirements.
It's hard to believe this is not from the bad old days of firefox version 1. Shouldn't firefox ui designers be on tigher leashes by now?
Just one more step on the road to putting people off firefox and ubuntu.
Seriously, can this be fixed asap please?
