Not sure, but I guess this is more Empathy-related than indicator-
messaging.

** Also affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided

** Also affects: telepathy-mission-control-5 (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
       Status: New

** Changed in: indicator-messages (Ubuntu)

empathy does not start on first click on 'Chat' after login, but does

Bug description:
After I reboot and login, if I click on the envelope (message
indicator) and select 'Chat', I see an empathy window pop up and
immediately disappear. If I select Chat a second time, it works. While
I am not sure that it is the same issue, I seem to be able to
reproduce the behavior if I do 'killall mission-control-5' then click
Chat. If I add empathy to my Unity launcher, I am not able to
reproduce this (ie, it always launches regardless of whether mission-
control-5 is initially running or not). I am on 12.04 but this was
  also a problem in 11.10.
