[Bug 909171] Re: firefox 9 statusbar url popup is unusable with dark grey text on black background

Since it is known that bugs can occur after "double" dist-upgrades (e.g.
Maverick to Oneiric in two successive with no real usage of Natty except
for the do-release-upgrade) but not after either fresh installations or
"single" dist-upgrades (e.g. Natty to Oneiric), and only a tiny minority
of Ubuntu users do double dist-upgrades, there are very few people who
will encounter the same bugs and come to the bug tracker. See, for
example, bug #880517.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/880517

I don't believe it is actually valid to conclude the issue is specific
to my profile. First, when I was using the original Oneiric release of
firefox 9.0.0 with the same profile, I did not have this issue. Second,
the issue occurred with the first Oneiric release of firefox 9.0.1,
while I was still using the same profile. Therefore, I think the issue
is not triggered by that profile, but by the interaction between the
profile and some change introduced in the Oneiric release of firefox
9.0.1. This seems to imply some sort of bug in the Oneiric firefox 9.0.1
release.

Title:
firefox 9 statusbar url popup is unusable with dark grey text on black
  background

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
    Binary package hint: firefox

Start Oneiric with the default Unity theme.

Start firefox 9.0.1 with the default persona, and theme. If you have
any custom settings for your Ubuntu desktop, don't bother trying to
reproduce this bug. Just start with a fresh Ubuntu Oneiric install.

Open any webpage that contains links.

Hit the Tab key slowly multiple times to make a small url popup appear
near the south-east corner of the browser window, showing the contents
  of the currently highlighted url.

The text in the url popup is dark grey on a black background. Who on earth chose that scheme? It's completely illegible without using a microscope and an image contrast enhancement tool.
This does not meet even minimum usability and accessibility requirements.

It's hard to believe this is not from the bad old days of firefox version 1. Shouldn't firefox ui designers be on tigher leashes by now?
Just one more step on the road to putting people off firefox and ubuntu.

Seriously, can this be fixed asap please?
