Or you can click the sound menu and stop it[1].

I'm marking this as invalid. Please discuss this in the ayatana list[2] if you
don't agree with the specification.

  status invalid

Title:
music keeps playing after closing banshee

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  - open an audio file in banshee and start playing
  - close banshee

  expected:
  EITHER music should stop playing
OR a tray icon should remain that the user could access quickly in order to stop playing, and with a status indicator showing that something is playing

  Observed:
the program interface is closed, the music keeps playing, and there is no tray icon nor anything that gives you a clue of what is playing and how to stop it.

I guess the keep-playing-music-after-closing is intended to be a
feature, but it is wrong unless there is a tray icon that one can
  easily access to stop.

  Consider the following situation:
  - you browse your files with Nautilus
  - you double click an audio file which opens automatically in banshee, but you don't even know (nor care) which program is playing the music
  - you close banshee and the music keeps playing, but you have no idea how to stop it unless you know that your default media player is called "banshee" so you have to run your media players by trial and error until you find out it's banshee and by running it you can stop playing
