Title:
the menus are not shown under unity if appmenu-gtk is uninstalled

Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I click the gnome-system-log icon after searching in the Unity
menus, I get an empty window with no logfiles, and no option to open
  extra logfiles.

This defeats the purpose of a log viewer a little ;)
